More than 70 animal pictures interact with the relief of the rock, colours and light. The mammoth is the most frequently represented animal, with 28 examples. The only representation of a bear is a strikingly realistic engraving done with a flint tool.
The painting of the spotted horses is a unique composition, an exceptionally well-preserved masterpiece dating back 29,000 years. In total, almost 800 representations have been counted in the cave.
These representations, associated with negative hands and prehistoric footprints, create a moving sense of closeness to our far distant human ancestors.
